Please follow these important guidelines to promote optimal healing and to maintain the integrity of your new cosmetic tattoo.

First 24 hrs:

Before touching your lips, make sure your hands are clean. Every 3-4 hours, take a lightly damp cotton round and gently wipe over your Lips. Then apply a small amount of aftercare ointment to each brow with a cotton tip.

Your lips may be swollen initially post treatment (which most clients love), this is normal and will go down in 24-48 hours. Your lips may also be sensitive post treatment, please avoid spicy and acidic foods.

It is normal that the initial appointment colour is highly saturated, the colour will appear bold and intense. The colour will fade up to 60% during the healing process.

For the first 2 weeks post treatment:
(14 days)

Apply aftercare ointment regularly and keep your lips clean and conditioned. Do not allow your lips to get dry.

Once in the morning, once in the evening, and after you eat, take a lightly damp cotton round and gently wipe through your lips. Then apply a small amount of aftercare ointment to your lips with a cotton tip.
It is also recommended that you apply a layer of ointment over the lips prior to eating, this will help act as a barrier for your new lip tattoo. Drinking through a straw is recommended.

Lips may get a little dry and flakey, similar to sunburn, and your lips may appear patchy during this stage. Do not pick at the dry skin. Apply more ointment to minimise discomfort and condition the lips. Ensure you are drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated, this will assist in best healing for the lips.

The new tattoo needs to be treated like an open wound, therefore it is important to keep the area clean.
To minimise risk of infection - Avoid kissing, this included partners, children and pets. Avoid touching your mouth.

During the healing process, please keep the following in mind:

  • The colour will look bold and intense straight after treatment, this is normal, the colour is expected to fade up to 60% during the healing process.

  • Do not pick or remove dry skin or flakiness: It is normal for the treated area to experience some mild itching or flaking. However, resist the urge to pick at your lips, as this can disrupt the healing process and potentially cause pigment loss. *When required add a small amount of ointment to soothe the area.

  • The final healed results will always be lighter than when the tattoo is freshly done. Over time, the colour will fade by 30% to 60% and may gradually reappear through the skin over the next 2-3 weeks. It's normal for the colour to vary and even appear different on some days.

  • Do not completely immerse your lips in water for the first 7-10 days, as this may result in some pigment loss.

  • Your lips may appear uneven, and patches of colour may fade. Try not to judge or overly scrutinise them during the first few weeks.

  • Trust the process. It's normal to feel emotional during this period. Remember to be patient as the skin heals over the tattoo.

  • If you suffer from cold sores during healing process, ensure you consult with your GP doctor to get a prescription for antiviral medication to assist in the healing a prevention of cold sores. Antiviral medication can also be purchased over the counter from the pharmacy, this is antiviral medication is not as high strength as available via prescription from a GP doctor.
*Please ensure you notify Aceso Aesthetics of any cold sores during the healing process.

To ensure proper healing and long-lasting results, please observe the following:

  • Avoid immersing your new lips in water for the first 7- 10 days. You must also avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms for the first 2 weeks.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning for the first two weeks.
*Note: Long term your should protect your lips from sun exposure by wearing a wide-brimmed hat or using a physical sunscreen with a high SPF. UV rays can fade the pigment and compromise the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo.

  • You can continue to use makeup and skincare products on your face, but you must avoid the newly tattooed area. This will help prevent infection and ensure proper healing.

  • Light exercise is recommended for the first 1-2 weeks to prevent excessive sweating onto the lips. Avoid activities that may cause excessive sweating: Sweating can increase the risk of infection and may cause the pigment to fade prematurely. Refrain from intense workouts and activities that induce excessive sweating during the healing period. Sweat carries bacteria and we must minimise any risk of infection.

  • Do not use any exfoliating products or treatments: Avoid using chemical peels, retinol, or any other exfoliating products near your lips, as they can cause the pigment to fade faster.
